Get Professional Eye Protection when Welding with Auto-Darkening Helmets
Welders Supply sells a wide range of professional-quality auto-darkening welding helmets manufactured by respected name brands like Miller, 3M Speedglas, and Jackson. The LCD component of these auto-darkening welding helmets distorts the most harmful light waves emitted from the welding arc by manipulating the direction of the light waves, adjusting the contrast enough to prevent damage to a welder's eyes.
A series of vertically and horizontally oriented polarized lenses then work in unison with the distorting LCD to further disorient the light waves. As a matter of safety, most auto-darkening lenses are set to polarize light by 90 degrees when not powered on, keeping the lens dark in the event of a power failure. This original technology was acquired by 3M in 2004 and continues to be sold by the company under the Speedglas banner.
Effortless Protection to Get the Job Done Faster
Traditionally, passive welding helmet shades have been an essential piece of equipment for welders since their introduction in 1937. The welding helmet physically protects the neck, face, and eyes from flash burns, sparks, and heat, while a passive shade guards against cornea inflammation (arc eye) resulting from the ultraviolet and infrared light emitted by the welding arc. With the introduction of auto-darkening welding lens filters in the 1980s, welders had a hands-free option, allowing them to easily alternate between protective darkness while welding and lighter shading to inspect work. Recent innovations like panoramic auto-darkening welding helmets have increased the viewing field for a more comfortable experience.
